Abstract
Lateral medullary infarction (LMI) can induce cardiorespiratory arrest with or without vasomotor instability. We report a case of 49-year-old man with left LMI caused by occlusion of the left distal vertebral artery (VA), who developed cardiorespi-ratory arrest without preceding cardiorespiratory symptoms or signs. There might be causal relationship between VA status (stenosis/occlusion or normal patency) and poor outcome including long term functional disability, autonomic instability or death.
